We love cruising; I dare say we might love it more than Disney, and we've got a LOT of Disney love. For us, cruising offers the ability to unpack once, see different places, enjoy the ocean air, and take in all of the fun activities a cruise ship has to offer. And, since we're huge Royal Caribbean fans (my kids and I will be Diamond members after our next cruise), we're always trying new ships in the fleet. So while we love all the RC ships we've really fallen for the Quantum Class ships, not in the least part because of the Royal Caribbean bumper cars. Which Royal Caribbean Ship has bumper cars?
To my knowledge it is only the "Quantum Class" ships that offer the bumper car experience. The bumper cars on Royal Caribbean are located in the Sea Plex. If your cruise has a Sea Plex, it has bumper cars. Does Ovation Of The Seas have bumper cars? Yes Does Anthem Of The Seas have bumper cars? Yes Does Quantum Of The Seas have bumper cars? Yes I have been on both Ovation and Anthem, and the Sea Plex is the same on both ships. In addition to all three of these being a Royal Caribbean cruise ship with bumper cars, they also offer some other really exciting activities in the Sea Plex. Skating Air Hockey Foosball Basketball X Box Lounge Trapeze School These are all Sea Plex activities, but there are a ton of other things to do outside of the Sea Plex as well. I haven't listed them only because I'm trying to focus on bumper cars, but rest assured, though the Quantum Class is not the largest class of Royal Caribbean ship, it is packed full of activities to keep you busy all week long. (or longer, if you're lucky) Here's a quick video of my son on the Anthem Of The Seas bumper cars. Sorry it's sideways! Thankfully, I got a much longer and not sideways video when we went on Ovation Of The Seas last May for our trip to Alaska (which was amazing!). The kids were so excited to be on another Royal Caribbean with bumper cars. So much so that when I book cruises now, I always look for the Quantum Class ships first because we love that Sea Plex!
WE'RE REVAMPING ALLOWANCE WITH THE GREENLIGHT DEBIT CARD FOR KIDS ROYAL CARIBBEAN BUMPER CARS RESTRICTIONS
Are there any Royal Caribbean cruise bumper cars restrictions? Indeed there are, but only a few, thank goodness!
*Royal Caribbean bumper cars age restriction/Ovation Of The Seas bumper cars age restriction/Anthem Of The Seas bumper cars age restriction/Quantum Of The Seas bumper cars age restriction - All young/short riders must be at least five years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian. They must be 5 years old to ride, and 8 years old to drive. Guests under 42" must ride with an adult. Guests over 42" and 8 years old can ride alone. *Royal Caribbean bumper cars weight limit/Anthem Of The Seas bumper cars weight limit (and all Quantum Class ships) - There is no weight limit for bumper cars on any of the Quantum Class ships. I have been on two of these ships and looked extensively at Royal Caribbean's guidelines and have found no mention of a weight limit. *Bumper Cars Royal Caribbean Cost/Ovation Of The Seas bumper cars cost/Anthem Of The Seas bumper cars cost/Quantum Of The Seas bumper car cost - Bumper cars on all sailings are free, with the exception of some China sailings. The bumper cars on China sailings will still remain complimentary, but you can opt to pay $5 extra for an "Express Lane" option, letting you cut the line. Note - Express lane is only available on China sailings, and limited to certain sailing and lengths. Now that I've covered all the main questions, let me tell you about our experiences so you can (hopefully) ride without waiting in the long lines that can accompany bumper car days. CAN YOU LEAVE YOUR BIRD ALONE WHILE YOU GO ON VACATION? WHEN TO RIDE ROYAL CARIBBEAN BUMPER CARS
The best time to ride the Royal Caribbean bumper cars is going to be on the day you set sail.
You'll need to head to the Sea Plex to look at the schedule to make sure the bumper cars will be open, but most of the time they open bumper cars around 2 p.m. the day you embark. If you can be there at that time you can ride over and over and over again. My kids rode for at least an hour when we did our 9 day Canadian cruise onboard Anthem. The employees would stop the cars every three minutes just to make sure anyone who wanted to get off could get off, but if you wanted to stay on, you were more than welcome to do so. If you cannot be there on the first day, it's okay! Just try to get there ten or fifteen minutes before bumper cars opens each day so that you get there before the lines get really long. On our last cruise on the Ovation, the kids wanted to ride on one of the sea days and the line was incredibly long. I think they waited a full 45 minutes for a 3 minute ride. You are absolutely allowed to ride alone, but if you want to cut your wait time, and the wait time of those people behind you, ride with a travel partner. You might have to "rock, paper, scissors" to see who gets to drive, but at least you'll be in a car. Bumper cars are not open every day, so definitely look at the TV screen in the Sea Plex or look in your Cruise Compass or Royal IQ so you know when to be there. Let's talk about how fast the bumper cars go, and how hard they hit. UNIVERSAL YUMS IS OUR FAVORITE MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION SNACK BOX ROYAL CARIBBEAN ANTHEM BUMPER CARS
When my mom and I took my boys on a 9 day Canadian cruise, it was (as expected) filled with a lot of older people. We're not the norm on these cruise, being that we homeschool and have no problem cruising on longer trips or going when schools are normally in.
So it was absolutely hilarious to me when we rode those bumper cars and I realized just how hard they hit, and then watched a bunch of 70-80 year olds nail each other with gusto! I was worried someone might break a bone, no kidding. I rode with my oldest son our first time (my only time) out, and someone hit us so hard that my head snapped forward, then backward, whacking hard on the head rest. The seatbelt cut into my neck and I had a bruise there for the rest of the cruise. If you're thinking these are going to be light taps from other cars, you are not correct. :) The employees on our cruises even went so far as to single out riders who were avoiding the impacts. You'd hear him over the speakers saying "Everyone go after number 8!" and all the cars would dutifully turn around, plowing straight toward the unlucky driver in that car. It was hilarious! The bumper cars are absolutely fun, but be ready to get hit. Maybe put that seatbelt around your shoulder or something, and definitely do NOT put your hands/arms/any body part outside of the car. You really could get seriously injured. HERE IS OUR MUST HAVE DISNEY PACKING LIST FINAL THOUGHTS
We love the Sea Plex, and we love the bumper cars. Our only wish is that they were open all the time, but we understand why that can't be since there are so many other activities that happen on the same floor space.
My son skated for the first time in his life on a Royal Caribbean cruise, and it's another one of those things he really looks forward to when we go. Look at the schedules, know the times, show up a bit early, and remember that the first day is going to be the slowest day, so get your riding in then, if you can. Be prepared to get hit very hard, and remember that if you try to play it safe, the employees are probably going to make sure everyone else on the floor knows it. :) If you haven't yet booked your cruise, be sure to check the prices on Get Away Today. They scan the sites so you don't have to, and will beat any competitor's price. Enjoy your bumping! Ty
