I'm wrapping up Romance Week here on the blog, just one more day to go! Today, we're talking about Lisa Kleypas. (read more) ![]()
I didn't pigeon hole her into one single genre, because, as far as I know, she writes a few genres very well.
We're going to chat about two specific genres, though. My favorites of hers are contemporary romance AND historical romance. I have not found many authors who do both of these well. Usually they have a strong affinity for one or the other. Now, my expertise in historical romance is limited, so take that into account. There's only one author I consistently read who writes historical romance, and that would be Lisa Kleypas. She takes a genre I don't typically enjoy and turns it into something I want to read over and over again. So let's start there! THE WALLFLOWERS![]()
First, I don't want you to think Lisa Kleypas writes only one historical romance series. She writes many, in fact they are her major genre, so I'm going to list the first books in all of the historical romance series of hers I've read.
We'll start with The Wallflowers. From the blurb of book one, you can tell what the series is going to be about: "Four young ladies at the side of the ballroom make a pact to help each other find husbands . . . no matter what it takes." Bring on the rakes, the Ton, and the scandal!

THE HATHAWAYS![]()
What happens when a regular family gets elevated into the aristocracy and high society? That's what you'll find out in the Hathaways series.
There are five books in this series, with each following a different set of main characters.

THE GAMBLERS![]()
Just as the series name suggests, these two books are about the romance that comes alive when a set of sisters set their sights on a set of gamblers.
Who doesn't love the bad guy who's a good guy at heart?

THE RAVENELS![]()
When Devon Ravenel inherits an earldom, things don't go as planned. Not only is his estate in a world of debt, but he's also got to look after the three young sisters of the deceased earl.
There are four books in the series now, but a fifth is coming in the next week, and I cannot wait to read it!

THE BOW STREET RUNNERS![]()
I think the thing I love most about this series is that it combines historical romance and romantic suspense.
What do you do when you can't remember who you are? Who do you see when you've got a mystery that needs to be solved? You hire a Bow Street Runner, of course.

![]() TRAVIS![]()
I did promise you that Lisa Kleypas writes more than historical romance, so that's how I'll end this blog post.
The Travis series is one that I've read more times than I can remember. Each book plunges you into the world of four wealthy siblings, and each book is excellent, but Sugar Daddy will always have my heart. It's a wonderful tale of a young girl's life, following her as she grows, raises her baby sister as her own, deals with the death of her mother, and finds her own link to the Travis family. If you love contemporary romance, this series is a must read.

I hope you love these books. If you've got a favorite Lisa Kleypas novel, let me know what it is, just in case I haven't read it!
