Does Pony O Actually Work?

DOES PONY O REALLY WORK?

As a general rule, I don't put my hair in pony tails. I do have pony tail holders, but they're mainly for putting my hair up at night when I go to sleep. Otherwise, if I do put my hair in a pony tail holder, it's only because I'm going to wrap it all up in a bun and give up on it for the day.

I do like how my hair looks when I pull it back, it's pretty, and it's out of the way, for about 20 minutes. Then it starts weighing the pony tail holder down, falling at wonky angles, and generally looking like I just rolled out of bed.

That's when the hair goes into a bun.

Previously, my only real experience with pony tail holders was scrunchies (I feel like SATC is frowning on me right now) or these little doo dads, which I do like, but again, just for night time.

I'd been pondering taking the Pony O leap, even talking to some friends about it, but I just wasn't sure. Is Pony O legit, or am I going to be shelling out $10 for a pony tail holder that doesn't hold my hair?

Well, I got my package in the mail today. Does Pony O really work? Let's see!

First though, let me tell you where you can, and cannot, get one.

IS PONY O SOLD IN STORES?

No, Pony O isn't sold in stores, so if you're wondering where to buy Pony O online, the first thing you're going to need to do is take a look at their website. They have a bunch of different Pony O holders, different colors, some blingy types, etc.

Where does Pony O ship from?

My package came from Colorado. I ordered on the 5th and received it on the 9th, so shipping was fast. The Pony O shipping cost was $4.95, but they do give you free shipping on orders over $39.00 so if you need a few, maybe you were blessed with lots of girl children, the shipping can be free.

WHAT TYPE OF HAIR DOES PONY O WORK FOR?

According to the Pony O website, Pony O hair ties work on every type of hair imaginable. As long as your hair is long enough to get into a regular pony tail holder, Pony O should work just fine.

Does Pony O work on thick hair? Yes, absolutely. I have both thick and curly hair, and here I am about nine hours after putting my Pony O in, everything is still in place, no movement.

Does Pony O work on curly hair? Again, yep, I've got first hand Pony O curly hair experience. Not only did it work, but I didn't have to pull it through the Pony O hair tie more than once, which means way less frizzing. That's a downfall of traditional pony tail holders (for me). The more I have to mess with a pony tail holder, the frizzier my hair gets. It's an evil cycle.

Does Pony O work on thin hair? Yes, again. Since you're basically squishing the Pony O hair tie onto your hair, it doesn't have to be a certain thickness to work. The rubber of the holder keeps it all in place (without pinching) and means from thick to thin, if you can squish the holder, your hair is going to stay put.

In a nutshell, whether you need a Pony O for thick hair, a Pony O for thin hair, or a Pony O for curly hair, Pony O has got you covered.

Okay, but what about Pony O for short hair? Well, I would think this might be the only case where your hair might need to be a little longer than what you'd put into a traditional pony tail holder. I say this only because a traditional holder is so slim, and Pony O is wider. I think the one I have in my hair now is about 3/4 of an inch wide, and the other one my set came with is more like a half inch.

If you're putting your short hair up with a pony tail holder and you've only got a half inch sticking out of the end, Pony O might only clamp your hair ends.

I can't imagine many scenarios where this happens, but just in case you're wondering, I wanted to cover it.

HOW TO PUT IN A PONY O

Your Pony O will come with instructions, but just in case you borrowed one from a friend, or some nice person gave you one of their two pack, let's talk about installation. :)

Step 1 - Pull your hair into a ponytail, just like normal.

Step 2 - Pull your hair through the Pony O hair tie.

Step 3 - Press the Pony O flat against your hair.

Step 4 - Around your thumb, bend one side of the Pony O down and under, then, around your thumb, bend the other side of the Pony O down and under.

It will look like this in your hair, basically:

I'm going to show you all of this in my Pony O hair tie video, so if that didn't make sense, don't worry, it will.

I started with my pony tail pretty high, only because I'm so used to it falling down. It didn't fall down, and I was worried I wouldn't like how high it was, but I really do. I also really like that the Pony O doesn't just keep it up, but the wide band also pushes your hair out, giving it a little more sway since it's not resting directly against the back of your head and neck.

IS PONY O WORTH IT?

Now that you know how I feel about my Pony O hair tie. Let's talk ways to get it cheaper, and whether or not it's worth the cost.

I'm going to say yes, it is. I mean, unless there's something else on the market like this, I feel like Pony O has got a great product that a lot of long haired ladies are going to love. And, since I have searched high and low on Amazon for anything similar, I can say there isn't something else like this, at least not in the most obvious places. Now, there is something similar to Pony O Bun Barz, so if you want to check out this donut bun maker on Amazon, it might meet your needs.

That said, spending $10 on a hair tie is not a small thing, so let's do what we can to get it cheaper.

There are a few Pony O discount coupons you can use, but the one I found that saves the most money is PONY15. Just enter that at checkout and it'll save you 15% on your order.

Of course they could discontinue that Pony O coupon at any time, but you can google "Pony O discount coupon code" and get the latest and greatest whenever you're ready to order.

NO, THESE THINGS DO NOT WORK! I have long thick hair and there’s no way I can get it tight enough to hold. It slips back and the hair on top of my head is tight and loose on the sides. It should be the opposite. Looks terrible! I can’t find anywhere to write an honest review about it. Looks like Pony-O monitors the reviews and only posts the good ones. I ordered 3 of their products and feel like I’ve totally wasted my money. Conveniently, no one answers their customer service number. Definitely would NOT recommend. Very disappointed. All hype, no hair fix

As I've stated in the review itself, and in the comments numerous times, I am NOT an affiliate of Pony O, I benefit from Pony O not at all by writing this review, and I stand by everything I've said. I love my Pony O, I'm wearing the pony tail holder right this minute, and their products work fantastic on my hair, zero complaints. So while I am sure the product doesn't work for everyone, for a lot of people, it works wonderfully. No product will ever work for everyone, but that doesn't make my review less unbiased or less honest.

Hi Monica! I'm really sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. Maybe I can help? I'll try, for sure! When I wrote this Pony O did not have the option for the XL hair tie, which is intended for thick hair. Is that the one you've purchased? If not, maybe give it a shot? I have very thick hair, and while the normal one does work for me, it can be tight going on and a little hard to get all my hair through. If I had it to do over, I think I'd get an XL size. Definitely keep calling or emailing so you can return the holder. I know they work for a lot of people, myself included, so at least with this review you know it's real. Pony O doesn't have affiliates, so I wrote this without any kick back at all from them. I just don't want you to think I wrote it because I get something from you if you purchase. That's not the case.

If you are the one in the video your hair is not that thick. Try triple that thickness....I can barely pull my hair through the XL hair tie and ive had my hair thinned a fair bit

Hey Mia, thanks for the nice words. :) It's a great product if you generally wear pony tails. Honestly I've fallen in love with the bunz bar during the summer. I use it more than my Pony O. It just makes the perfect messy updo (at least on my wild curls). If you get one, I hope you love it!

It absolutely does NOT work for thick hair.
It just falls down.
Does not hold the hair up at all. My favorite part is how the thick hair section on the website shows pictures of women who don't have thick hair.
I did purchase the XL one.

Sorry to hear they didn't work for you, Sonja. I suppose no product will work for 100% of the population. I love mine so much, they are daily wear during these hot months. I actually just ordered some more and ordered some of the Bling Ringz to see how they work. Hopefully you can find something that keeps your ponytail set! :)

I have wicked thick heavy hair. Watched your video to see if I wanted to order Pony O and Bun Barz. The thick hair section of the Pony O website has a video using the Bun Barz. That particular video shows that you use the Pony O & THEN apply the Bun Barz. Have you tried that and does it work for heavy thick hair?

Hi Deidre! I have never used the pony tail holder and the bun bar together, unfortunately. My hair is thick, but not as thick as some who post here, so I don't have the same frame of reference. I'd offer to try it out for you, but I cut a bunch of my hair off about a month ago (summer does that to me) so I can't actually use the bun bar very well at the moment. In my head it seems like it would give it extra hold, the pony tail holder keeping it in one place and then the bun bar creating the bun. Actually, having the pony tail holder to wrap the bun bar around might even make it a little easier. The do have a good return policy, so if you don't like it, you can send it back. If you decide to do it, we'd love to hear how it works!

Hi Jitka. The one I have on in this video is light brown. I also have a dark brown, they seem to blend in about the same for my hair color. I hope that helps.
